Not just a wine shop.
A private cellar, kept by one man.
For over twenty years, H has never sold a bottle online — until now. Every recommendation still starts with a conversation, in a small shop on a cobbled East End lane, and soon, at your door too.

H, at the vineyard
H, in the cellars
Harpreet Bansal started with the bottles everyone already knew. He ended up somewhere no one expected.
He bought a modest off-licence on Wapping Lane in 2002 and stocked what sold. But sip by sip, over more than two decades, his own palate pulled the shelves somewhere finer — small growers, boutique producers, and eventually a Champagne list serious enough that people travel across London for it. Regulars simply call him H. He's since started blending and bottling wine under his own label, poured from the same counter he started at.
What he's known for
Fine Champagne and small-grower fizz, sourced with a collector's patience rather than a distributor's list.
How he works
No algorithm, no online cart — every bottle is handed over with the story of who made it and why it's worth trying.
His philosophy
Treat people the way you'd want to be treated. It shows up in a £10 bottle recommendation as much as a rare one.
His own label
Two decades of tasting turned into his own selected and blended range, poured alongside the growers he admires.
A rare find isn't rare because it's expensive. It's rare because H went looking for it.
Somewhere between a village grower's cellar and a customer's kitchen table, most wine loses its story. H's shop exists to stop that from happening — nothing arrives without knowing where it came from and who made it.
That's why a customer can walk in for a £10 bottle and leave with something from a small producer she hadn't seen since her hometown across Europe. The knowledge is the same, whatever the budget.

A few of this month's discoveries
Not a catalogue — a running notebook of what H is pouring, blending, and chasing down right now.
Grower Champagne, single vineyard
Côte des Blancs, FranceA small grower H has bought from for years — the kind of bottle that never makes a supermarket shelf.
H's own label blend
Selected & bottled by HTwenty years of tasting distilled into a house blend, poured for regulars before it's poured for anyone else.
A boutique white, further afield

Tell H what you're after. If it exists, he'll find it.
Not every bottle H sources makes it onto this page. If you're after something specific — a producer, a region, a vintage — send a quick note and he'll get back to you directly.

Reviews. In their own words.
“I had a fantastic experience at the Wapping wine shop. The selection is excellent, with a great mix of affordable everyday wines and unique premium bottles you won’t easily find elsewhere at affordable prices. H is genuinely knowledgeable and takes time to recommend wines based on your taste rather than just pushing expensive options. The atmosphere is welcoming, relaxed, and perfect for browsing. Whether you’re looking for a special occasion bottle or just something nice for dinner at affordable prices, this shop is a real gem in Wapping. Highly recommended for wine lovers and beginners alike.”
"Highly recommend H & Wapping Wines! Known and frequented for years now when passing by the area. My faves to source from him is a Rioja he stocks which I’ve also ordered boxes of for gifting in the past, he has an amazing range of other wines across the board including a nice selection of Sparkling if ever needed. Really enjoyed the Zero (alcohol free) Sparkling Riesling recently taken to a party. Wanted something that tasted fresh, unique and easily drinkable with a range of food but non-alcoholic and this hit the mark. And if you want something but can’t find it or a recommendation, ask H - who is always happy to help."
"This is a fantastic wine shop and well worth traveling to, they have a fantastic selection of beers that you can't get anywhere else like Modelo and La Chouffe including the Cherry La Chouffe which is a delicacy and is very hard to find in the UK. The owner H is also a fantastic guy and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the wine sector and can help you to pick something good out if that's what you need. If you like interesting beers and wines that you can't find anywhere else this is definitely the place for you."
